Bucknell Women's Rowing Competes Against West Virginia
April 19, 2008 SHAMOKIN DAM, Pa. (Susquehanna River) - The Bucknell women's rowing team faced West Virginia in a series of untimed races Saturday morning on the Susquehanna River and had success against the Mountaineers, a squad that is led by former Bison men's and women's rowing head coach Jimmy King. Bucknell's varsity eight and second varsity eight competed in three sets of races against West Virginia's varsity eight and the two Bison boats finished one-two. It was similar in fours with Bucknell's varsity four and second varsity four sweeping the first two spots in the three-boat race against West Virginia's varsity four. In novice competition, Bucknell's novice eight was first in the three pieces against the Mountaineers' novice eight, while the Bison second novice eight placed third. Just two boats competed in the novice four competitions with Bucknell defeating West Virginia in their races. "Our women did a good job getting out there and staying focused as we treated this more like a scrimmage," commented Bucknell head coach Stephen Kish. "This was a key point in our preparation for next week's Patriot League Championship, which we are looking forward to." Saturday's races marked the final home meet for Bucknell's six seniors: Sophie Bird, Katherine Brewster-Duffy, Cara Cox-Steiner, Jessica Glenn, Brittany Kaplan and Jennie Trayes. However, the Bison have the championship portion of their schedule ahead of them, starting with next Sunday morning's Patriot League Championships, which will be held on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J., for the first time. Bucknell has won the title the last two years.
