Gregg Gebhard Joins Bison Women's Lacrosse Staff

Nov. 5, 2007

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Earlier this fall, first-year head women's lacrosse coach Caline McHenry selected former Greensboro College head coach Gregg Gebhard to be her new assistant at Bucknell. Gebhard, who joined the Bison staff prior to the team's fall season, has been heavily involved in the sport of women's lacrosse since graduating from Pfeiffer University in 1998.

As the head coach at Greensboro from 2004-07, Gebhard compiled a record of 36-28 overall, 19-3 in the USA South Conference. He is the winningest head coach in program history. In four seasons, he guided The Pride to two regular-season league championships and one tournament title. He coached 17 USA South All-Academic selections, including the 2007 Division III IWLCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Gebhard also mentored 31 all-conference players, two rookie-of-the-year selections, two Regional All-America picks and three North-South All-Stars.

While at Greensboro, Gebhard also served as the athletic department's director of marketing and promotions.

In the spring of 2003, Gebhard served as head coach of Team Charlotte, a team of 30 players whose high schools did not offer girl's lacrosse. Gebhard's first coaching position came at his alma mater, where he was Pfeiffer's head women's coach from 1998-2002. Within four years of the program becoming a varsity sport at Pfeiffer, he helped the team achieve its first national ranking, and he recruited and coached the program's very first All-American. Gebhard also served as the school's sports information director, promoting the Falcons' 16 varsity sports programs.

Gebhard has also been involved with USA Athletes International, and he coached the United States All-Star Team to a fourth-place finish (out of 13 teams) at the 2007 Prague Cup in the Czech Republic. He also coached the 2005 team to a runner-up finish at the Prague Cup, and in 2003 and 2004 his all-star squads finished second and third, respectively, at the Down Under Cup in Melbourne Australia.

Gebhard, who received his degree in sports management with a minor in business administration from Pfeiffer, was a two-time All-Deep South Conference selection in lacrosse. The Long Island, N.Y., native was also the 1997 Deep South Tournament MVP.

At Bucknell, Gebhard joins a program that finished 7-9 overall and 2-3 in the Patriot League last season. The team's top seven scorers are back from last year, including rising junior Bonnie Buechel, who earned First Team All-Patriot League honors after leading the squad with 49 points, 36 goals and 51 draw controls.

McHenry, a former Duke All-American and Tewaaraton Trophy semifinalist, was named head coach in August.
