Bucknell Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Army

Nov. 10, 2007

Box Score

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) surpassed the school record for kills in a single season and also logged her 1,000th career dig, but the Bucknell volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Army on Saturday afternoon. The setback leaves the Bison at 11-17 overall and 4-9 in the Patriot League, while the Black Knights improve to 23-4 overall and 11-2 in league contests.

In the opener, the score remained close for much of the game as Army led from the opening point, but was unable to pull away from Bucknell, until, with a narrow two-point advantage at 23-21, the Black Knights strung together a 7-2 run to record a 30-23 victory.

Then in game two, the Bison were on top, 8-6, when Army managed to register seven straight points to jump in front, 13-8. Leading comfortably the rest of the way, the Black Knights went up 2-0 in the match with a 30-19 win.

With the score tied at eight in the final frame, Army used a 9-4 run to build a 17-12 advantage and never trailed after the first point of the game, closing out the contest with a 30-23 decision.

Junior Emilie Hardinge (Darien, Conn./Darien) recorded a team-high nine kills for Bucknell, followed by Henderson's total of eight. Henderson led the squad with 14 digs, while junior Sheena Czipri (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) chipped in with 10. Junior setter Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) aided the attack with 26 assists.

Henderson, now with 423 kills on the year following the match against the Black Knights, broke the Bison season record of 421, which was set by Melissa Wharton in 1996. She recorded her 1,000th career dig, as well, and joins 2004 graduate Brandi Trapasso as the only two players in school history to total 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in their careers.

For Army, Elizabeth Lazzari led the way with 13 kills and 11 digs for a double-double. Maureen Bannon also posted a double-double, as she compiled 39 assists and 10 digs. Briana Stremick contributed 10 kills, Jamie Clark had four service aces and Lauren Teal totaled six blocks.

Bucknell will wrap up its 2007 season tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 11, with a match at Holy Cross, beginning at 4 p.m.
